Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation can give your lips the full and luscious appearance you have always wanted. There are several options for lip augmentation including dermal filler injections and fat grafting. At HealthPartners Plastic Surgery, we provide personalized treatment with excellent results. We want you to be happy with your decision and your appearance.

Many people choose lip augmentation to feel better about their appearance. Some of the reasons include:

  • Lips appearing too thin
  • To create a more defined lip

Options for Lip Augmentation

There are different methods available to enhance your lips. These methods include injectables such as JUVÉDERM® XC or fat grafting/fat injection. When injected beneath the skin, these fillers add fullness to the lips and plump up the creases. Your surgeon will recommend what he/she feels is best for you based on your personal situation and goals.

One of the injectables we use is JUVÉDERM® XC. JUVÉDERM® XC is a gel made of Hyaluronic Acid that is injected into the lip area.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar complex in the skin that maintains the moisture and volume of your skin. JUVÉDERM® XC replaces the hyaluronic acid that your skin has lost over time to restore volume in your lips and create a more defined lip line.

With injectables, you can expect:

  • Most JUVÉDERM® XC procedures to take less than fifteen minutes in-office
  • Discomfort to be minimal and brief, with a return to normal activities immediately
  • To see immediate results
  • Results to last eight to twelve months, although your own results may vary

Fat Grafting / Fat Injection

Fat grafting uses your own fat cells to add fullness to your lips. Fat cells are carefully removed from one part of your body, such as the abdomen or thigh, and then injected into the lip area. The procedure is done under local anesthesia. Only a small amount of fat cells are removed so it is not noticeable in the removal area.

With fat grafting you can expect:

  • Visible swelling that will diminish over time
  • To most likely need more than one fat grafting to get your desired results
  • To have permanent results depending on your weight stability.

Combining Treatments

If you are looking to correct severe surface wrinkles around the lips, sometimes referred to as lipstick lines, your surgeon may recommend a resurfacing technique. Resurfacing options include a chemical peel, dermabrasion or laser treatment either alone or in conjunction with the injectable treatment. Our team can go over the treatment options we offer that can complement your lip augmentation and figure out which combination of treatments can provide you with your ideal results.
